Prof. Dr. A.B. (Arie) van Vugt, MD PhD

Professor Dr. Arie van Vugt, former Medical Manager at EMS, has transitioned to the role of Medical Commissioner. As a prominent figure in the medical community with a rich background as a trauma surgeon, Arie continues to contribute his strategic expertise to EMS. His experience with the defense forces has given him unique insights and skills that remain invaluable in the world of medical repatriation. Arie is widely respected for his clinical excellence, decisiveness in critical situations, and inspiring leadership. In his new advisory role, he remains closely involved in guiding medical quality and innovation. He is also an expert quality auditor, supporting EMS in maintaining and advancing its ISO 9001:2015 certification from TÜV, and ensuring the continued reliability of our services.

Medical Manager

Ed Spoelder, MD PhD

Ed Spoelder is Medical Manager at EMS and has extensive experience as an anesthesiologist, with a strong academic background and a particular focus on acute and emergency care. He has also gained significant operational experience with the Dutch Helicopter Mobile Medical Team (H-MMT).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he played a leading role in the Lifeliner 5 operation, in which mechanically ventilated patients were safely transported by helicopter to available intensive care facilities throughout the Netherlands. This experience further strengthened his expertise in acute care and medical transport under complex and demanding circumstances.

Spoelder is known for his calm and thoughtful leadership in high-pressure situations. He combines clinical expertise with empathy and a strong awareness of the human side of patient care. In addition to his clinical work, he is actively involved in medical education and interdisciplinary collaboration. His extensive experience, academic background, and reflective approach are highly valued within the fields of emergency and transport medicine.

Ambulance & Warehouse Manager

J.G.J. (Jeffrey) Kremer

Jeffrey oversees the technical management of our ambulance fleet and the organization of warehouse operations at EMS. With a keen eye for detail, he ensures our ambulances are fully equipped and meet the highest standards for medical repatriation. Additionally, Jeffrey is responsible for maintaining and managing the inventory of supplies critical to our operations, guaranteeing seamless support for every mission.
